Whatcom Skagit Housing Authority HVAC Project
Recently, Ronk Brothers Heating and Cooling was proud to be selected as the contractor for the residential HVAC system installations at both the Drayton Reach 4 and 5 Projects in Blaine, WA. As a local government agency, the Whatcom Skagit Housing Authority serves approximately 3,000 homes housing over 7,000 residents in Whatcom County.
Project Details
On this project, two phases of homes (20 homes in total) required our NATE Certified technitions to complete the HVAC system installation of each new home. This included a gas furnace, new gas piping, and installed all the ductwork (including sealing and insulating.)
Our installation team coordinated with the Housing Authority to work on their timeline for rough-in, system installation, water heater installation, and then trim work to ensure the project would move smoothly.
Blower Door Testing
At Ronk Brothers Heating and Cooling, we know where to find air leaks in a home. However, we also use some specialized equipment to ensure it meets current energy standards for today’s modern homes.
During both phases of the Whatcom Skagit Housing Authority project, we completed a blower door test to identify key problem areas and determine each home’s airtightness. This process allows us to find all the small air leaks that are causing the home to lose energy and waste money, which then allows us to create a custom solution plan.
Establishing the proper building tightness will help:
- – Reduce energy consumption due to air leakage
– Avoid moisture condensation problems
– Avoid uncomfortable drafts caused by cold air leaking in from the outdoors
– Determine how much mechanical ventilation might be needed to provide acceptable indoor air quality.
